Instructor Bios
Heather Fullerton MD, FACSM, FAWM
Dr, Fullerton is board certified in Sports Medicine as well as Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She has over 20 years experience working in clinical medicine. She has achieved fellowship status in the American College of Sports Medicine and the Wilderness Medical Society.
With a passion for the outdoors and for physical activity, Dr. Fullerton has taken her career outside, providing medical care at urban and trail events including the Houston Marathon, the Chicago marathon, and the Leadville 100. She has served as medical director for such events as the Livestrong Challenge, professional tennis, and the Cap10K (an Austin, Texas race with 25,000 runners).
By educating others, Dr. Fullerton is able to amplify her impact. In a clinical setting she teaches both medical students and resident physicians. She is faculty advisor for the Wilderness Medicine Interest Group at Texas A&M School of Medicine. She holds a graduate certificate in education.
Of her teaching experiences, Dr. Fullerton finds wilderness medicine the most fun, as it takes place outdoors! Students include laypeople, professional outdoors-people, and medical professionals. Examples of these settings include:
scout camps and scout leaders - BSA and GSUSA
continuing medical education events or adventure trips for physicians, midlevels, nurses, EMTs, etc. - through the University of Colorado School of Medicine, AdventureMed, and the Wilderness Medical Society
Wildland Firefighter First Aid - through the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the National Forest Service
Multi-day events or adventure trips for medical students, pre-health students, and laypeople, taking place in the USA and Costa Rica.
