The Wilderness First Aid course provides individuals with an introduction to wilderness medicine, as well as skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the outdoors. This program is appropriate for entry-level outdoor guides and for non-medical people who want a basic understanding of wilderness medicine.
Upon course completion, students will earn both the WFA and optional CPR/BLS plus AED certifications, which are valid for two years. Certification through Survival Med or ECSI. Hybrid and fully in-person options are available.
Course length: 16 hours
The Wilderness First Responder course is designed to provide an individual with an in-depth knowledge of wilderness medicine, and the basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the outdoors. This program is appropriate for professional outdoor guides and non-medical people who want a deeper understanding of wilderness medicine.
Students will learn the latest wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment, and evacuation. Expert instructors employ a wide scope of teaching methods, balancing lectures with practical, hands-on skills and scenarios. Emphasis is placed on the materials learned and the critical decision-making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management.
Upon course completion, students will earn the WFR certification, valid for two years, and optional CPR/BLS plus AED certification, also valid for two years. Certification through Survival Med.
Course length: 70 hours (35 hours online and 35 hours in-person)
A shorter version is available for students desiring recertification.
This 30-hour Wilderness Medical Provider (WMP) certification course prepares medical professionals to care for patients in remote and austere environments. Developed by fellowship-trained wilderness medicine experts, the curriculum is based on the latest evidence-based research, including Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) practice guidelines.
All medical professional courses are eligible for 28.75 ACGME Cat. 1 CME credits and 28.25 FAWM credits. Upon completion of our Wilderness Medical Provider course, students will also earn a WMP certification, valid for four years. More details and certification through Blue Ridge Adventure Medicine.

Course length: 30 hours (16 hours self-paced online followed by 2 days / 14 hours in-person)
Be prepared for an emergency in your home, workplace or community! Gain confidence in what to do before the professionals arrive. Courses are offered in basic first aid, CPR / AED, or a combination of both. Hybrid courses (virtual coursework followed by in-person skills check) are available.
Upon course completion students will earn a certification good for two years. Certification through the American Red Cross or ECSI.
Course length: 3-4 hours
Basic LIfe Support (BLS) is for healthcare personnel who need to quickly respond to emergencies in a variety of settings. This course includes adult and pediatric emergencies, including ventilations and multiple rescuer scenarios. Hybrid courses (virtual coursework followed by in-person skills check) are available.
Upon course completion students will earn a certification good for two years. Certification through the American Red Cross or ECSI.
